Miti Field Laboratories is an independent research programme in Earth observation and planetary science, focused on satellite radar interferometry (InSAR), synthetic aperture radar (SAR), satellite altimetry, and comparative planetary surface studies.
The site serves as a working home for that research: published papers, preprints, datasets, and notes from ongoing work.
Research themes
- Cryosphere dynamics — grounding-line detection via interferometric SAR (InSAR), ice shelf stability assessment, and brine infiltration signatures from multi-year Sentinel-1 C-band time series
- Satellite altimetry & hydrology — SWOT Ka-radar and ICESat-2 fusion for irrigation water balance estimation; river surface height validation against satellite altimetry products
- Coastal & benthic remote sensing — habitat classification through fusion of spaceborne lidar (ICESat-2) and multispectral imagery (Sentinel-2)
- Planetary surface science — comparative analog studies for outer solar system ice shells, currently including work related to NASA’s Europa Clipper mission; ongoing work extends to Mercury (BepiColombo arrival analysis), interstellar object characterization, and lunar polar volatile mapping
Methods
Research relies on open-access satellite data — including ESA’s Copernicus programme (Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2) and NASA missions (ICESat-2, SWOT) — processed through open scientific computing infrastructure. Work follows a standing independence rule: no proprietary data, tools, or resources from any employer are used in any research output; all analysis draws exclusively on public satellite archives, open literature, and personal research conducted independently of any employment.
